Mauch Chunk Opera House

About Brooklyn

The Mauch Chunk Opera House was built in 1881 and one of the earliest Vaudeville theaters in America. It was initially designed as a 900-seat concert hall and included acts of some of the popular actors and actresses in the nation at that time. In 1927, it was sold and renamed Capitol Theater, which was then sold in 1962 and used as a warehouse for a local purse factory. For more than a decade later, in 1975, the local citizens that formed The Mauch Chunk Historical Society acquired the building and reopened it for local productions. It remains open today for live entertainment and its intimate setting holds around 400 patrons.

Located downtown Jim Thorpe and a variety of shops nearby, the Mauch Chunk Opera House is open and welcomes visitors for tours. Entertainment and musical acts are booked during the evening so come join what the historical opera house has to offer. For more information, visit www.mcohjt.com.
